Get your camera ready

Choose Video Chat and allow camera and microphone access when your browser asks. Use the device preview to check your picture and sound before joining. Headphones can help avoid echo; a little light in front of you makes a bigger difference than a fancy camera.

If you prefer not to show your face, choose text. Camera permissions are not needed for text chat, and you can leave a video setup without joining a call.

What happens when you match

OddHello exchanges the connection information needed for an encrypted WebRTC call. Browsers try a direct connection; a relay can carry encrypted media when a direct path is unavailable. OddHello does not record the call. A direct peer connection can reveal network information to the other participant.

The video starts covered while safety checks prepare. Incoming video screening runs on your device. These checks can miss content and produce false alarms, so the Next and Report controls remain important.

If a call does not connect

Check that the correct camera and microphone are selected and that another application is not using them. A restricted network or unstable connection can prevent a call even when your own preview works. A brief connection interruption may recover without finding a new stranger.

Text is available when video is inconvenient. Never share private contact details just to troubleshoot a call with someone you have only just met.
