Anonymous chat means you can start without an account. It does not mean you are invisible to the internet.

The small amount of state that makes chat work

OddHello uses a signed anonymous session for age acknowledgement, chat and abuse prevention. The session expires 24 hours after creation; using it does not extend that lifetime. The application uses a keyed hash of your connection address for rate limits and bans; it does not store the raw address in those records.

Text messages pass through the server. Up to 50 recent messages per room support delivery, brief reconnects and reports. Room messages normally expire 30 minutes after the room ends. A report can preserve relevant evidence for seven days, or longer when placed on a justified hold.

Video, microphones and reports

Audio and video use encrypted WebRTC. They travel directly between browsers where possible, or through a relay carrying encrypted media. OddHello does not record calls. Direct peer connections can reveal network information to the other person, and they could record their own screen.

Video screening runs locally. Selected video frames leave your device only when deliberately submitted with a report. Server-side text moderation can use Cloudflare Workers AI; the Privacy Notice explains that processing separately from product analytics.

Statistics without a trail of people

The service keeps aggregate operational counts, such as queue entries and successful connections. Optional browser statistics help explain how people reach Start. They are off until you choose to share them, and are not needed to chat.

These statistics exclude messages, interests, media, full referral URLs and detailed browser identifiers. A consenting visit uses a random short-lived token in memory, not a lasting user profile. There is no returning-user score, advertising pixel or cross-site tracking. See the Privacy Notice for retention and the preference control.

A practical rule

Share only what you would be comfortable letting a stranger keep. Closing a tab ends your interaction, but does not instantly erase safety records. You can contact the operator about privacy without creating an OddHello account.
